Steve Jobs 1955-2011
“We don’t get a chance to do that many things, so every one should be really excellent,”. “Life is brief and then you die, you know? This is what we’ve chosen to do with our life. So it better be damn good. It better be worth it.”
Steve Jobs prescription for doing business right
Prescription for doing business right: Forget Wall Street. Forget your stock price and even your bottom line. Focus on what business is all about: making a better mousetrap. Build cool products and the world will come. Hire passionate, driven people and they will find a way. Take risks. Make mistakes. Aim high. Put yourself on the line — not in the per-share targets you set, but in the ambitious products you promise — over and over again — to your customers. Do your job and do it well, and the bottom line, the stock price, and everything else will take care of itself.
On what customers want
"If I'd asked my customers what they wanted, they would have told me 'a faster horse'." - Henry Ford

Anika turns 6
August 19, 2011: Anika turned six today. I just realized how time flies by so fast. My baby has grown-up so fast. No matter how fast it may have been, I can be happy by the fact that I didn't miss most of it. I've been there with Anika all these years and I intend to be there always. I love her so much and wish only the best for her.

Satchel Paige quotes

"Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter."
"I use my single windup, my double windup, my triple windup, my hesitation windup, my no windup. I also use my step-n-pitch-it, my submariner, my sidearmer and my bat dodger. Man's got to do what he's got to do."

Dean Karnazes quotes
"I'm not a special guy. I am not gifted. Never, however, do I take shortcuts. There is no path of least resistance in my training. What I do equates to hard manual labor, disciplined grunt work. Once you permit yourself to compromise, you fail yourself. You might be able to fool some people, but you can never fool yourself. Your toughest critic is the one you face every morning in the mirror."
"If you're passionate and driven, you can accomplish things."
"When situations seem thorny and convoluted beyond reconciliation, the weight of the complexities blurs the simple reality that there is really only one fundamental decision to be made: Stop or continue."

Life Insights
1. It doesn't matter how fast you're going if you're moving in the wrong direction.
2. Even if you're inches away from the finish, never take success for granted.
3. Regardless of how distant your dreams may seem, every second counts.
4. Never, under any circumstances, argue with a tired woman. She is always right.

Africa
"Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must move faster than the lion or it will not survive. Every morning a lion wakes up and it knows it must move faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter if you are the lion or the gazelle, when the sun comes up in Africa you better be moving." - Maurice Greene

Eagnas starting clamp
Here below I post the operating procedure. This was taken from the Eagnas website.
1) Used as starting clamp to hold the string from inside the frame.
2) Used as starting clamp for holding the string from outside the frame for 50-50 string pattern.

3) Used for patching or tensioning strings by using a discarded piece of string to extend it to the string gripper.
3.1) patching:
- Thread a discarded piece of string through the outside hole on the left and pull the string through the corresponding hole at the right.
- Place this string into the string gripper of the Eagnas stringing machine.

Moving on
"You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore." - Christopher Columbus
I've made a momentous decision to lead another team. The new team will be very challenging as it is a new domain. I always believe that there is opportunity in everything. From this new team I believe I'll learn more and it may help me to progress in my career.
I hope my current Europe MS Team learned something during my tenure. I hope they realized how much of their interest I have put ahead of myself. I hope that I made a difference.

Packed trains
CCK to Jurong is packed around 8:40AM. Obvoiusly, 6-min intervals is not enough between 8:30AM to 9:30AM. SMRT has to adjust peak hour duration as traffic volume has been like this for a while now.
